Sarah E. Johnston graduated with honors from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where she earned a dual Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communications. Sarah also admitted to IU's Liberal Arts Management Program, a three-year inter-disciplinary program combining traditional liberal arts coursework with a specialized business curriculum through the Kelley School of Business. While pursuing her undergraduate education, Sarah also completed a course of study in European Union law at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Brussels, Belgium.

After graduation and prior to law school, Sarah was one of five students selected to work as a Governor's Fellow in the office of Indiana Governor Joseph Kernan. Upon completion of the one-year fellowship, Sarah was invited to direct the pilot mentoring initiative of First Lady Maggie Kernan, aimed at pairing at-risk middle school students with mentors from the business and legal communities.

Sarah went on to receive her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law. During law school, Sarah was active in intramural moot court, as well as serving as the director for First-Year Student Orientation and as a peer advisor in BU's Career Development Center. Sarah also served as a two-year director of BU's sketch comedy group, Legal Follies.

Sarah is licensed to practice law in all California State courts.
