Grace Sweeney is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Yukevich Cavanaugh, where she combines a background in chemistry with deep litigation experience. A chemist and trial attorney, Ms. Sweeney holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and completed graduate coursework at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA. Prior to joining Yukevich Cavanaugh, she worked at a large international law firm in Los Angeles, and conducted laboratory research alongside GlaxoSmithKline scientists, developing an electrochemistry-based diagnostic for pediatric cancer.
Ms. Sweeney’s practice spans complex litigation and intellectual property, with a focus on high-stakes product liability and patent litigation. She brings particular expertise in expert-driven litigation and technical subject matter, drawing on her scientific training to work seamlessly with expert witnesses and clients in the life sciences and high-tech sectors. Her experience includes advising public companies from the development of foundational IP rights through to trial, including patent prosecution and complex product liability and patent litigation. She has experience in fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, arguing dispositive motions, and attending trial. She recently served on a Yukevich Cavanaugh trial team in a $65 million jury trial, securing a unanimous 12-0 verdict.
Ms. Sweeney is a pro bono prosecutor with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, where she first-chairs criminal trials, and pro bono counsel with the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Domestic Violence Legal Services Project. Outside of work, she runs competitively, and has qualified for the Boston and Chicago marathons.
